Honouring Sabrina’s vision

It is only fitting that Sabrina’s warm, compassionate spirit and a strong desire to leave the world a better place would continue to live on through the Sabrina Yusoof Foundation. We hope that through the Foundation’s work in empowering the lives of women and vulnerable communities across Sri Lanka, we can honour her memory and help realise her goals to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of others.

Our Objectives

SYF works to achieve our vision and mission by:
Donating funds and technical advice to organisations or individuals conducting gender equality initiatives in Sri Lanka.
Facilitating women’s empowerment with a focus on mothers and working women.
Supporting environmental sustainability programs focused on water and reforestation initiatives.
Enable long-term reduction of poverty in Sri Lanka.

Our Values

Compassion

Respecting, valuing and embracing anyone who engages with the SYF by being kind, compassionate and inclusive. All people have the right to participate in the development of the nation and the development of the nation will not be complete without understanding and listening to the diverse views and needs of all people.

Equity & Equality

To be fair in how programs are delivered and evaluated, keeping equity and equality in the forefront of all we do; and recognizing to achieve equality means different people will need different types of support, depending on their starting position.

Always working with integrity, transparency and accountability.

Sustainability

We support organisations who are addressing the causes of inequity through long term and sustainable solutions. Sustainability includes financial sustainability, environmental impact and long term positive outcomes for the people of Sri Lanka.

Collaboration

We work closely with people and communities to achieve a shared vision of a better world. Gender equality and sustainable development will only be achieved with collaboration and strong partnerships between donors, community, non-governmental and governmental organisations.

Sabrina’s Story

Sabrina Yusoof touched the lives of so many people, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her love for philanthropy started at home in Sri Lanka, teaching English and building schools, doing community outreach projects, cleaning up beaches and villages and generally going out of her way to help make life more beautiful for others. She then continued on to Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia working with orphans with disabilities, and teaching English. 

In her 33 year short time on this earth, Sabrina’s impact as a friend, colleague, daughter, wife and mother was immeasurable. Sabrina was a loving and generous personality, always willing to lend an ear or helping hand to anyone who needed it. After getting married in 2012, Sabrina dedicated the next six years of her life solely to raising her daughters – Norah and Layla. It was in 2018 that she joined ExpoLanka PLC as the Global Lead of CSR and Sustainability where she worked tirelessly to drive several new initiatives to build an inclusive and prosperous future focusing on marginalised communities and creating a greener Sri Lanka. 

In her memory, Sabrina’s family launched the Sabrina Yusoof Foundation to continue the good work she did by focusing on gender equality initiatives, the empowerment of women and children, especially single or working mothers, and sustainable projects that give back to the environment.
