What We Do

The United Nations sustainable development goals “are a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects for everyone, everywhere”.

The United Nations has identified the greatest need for action leading up to 2030 is to tackle poverty, empower women and girls and address the climate change emergency. The Sabrina Yusoof Foundation is taking action in these areas.

SYF works through collaborative partnerships with Sri Lanka’s diverse communities to enable the greatest long term and sustainable impact, and an inclusive, equitable society for all Sri Lankans.

We support organisations and individuals who are dedicated to the sustainable development of Sri Lanka and who believe in a fair, equal and inclusive society.

We provide grants and technical support to community organisations working on our key focus areas and support the ongoing monitoring of the outcomes for the organisations and projects we fund, to ensure the greatest impact.

Emerge Centre for Reintegration

Supporting and empowering survivors of trauma on their journey to independence

Empowering Workshops

In September 2023, SYF partnered with Safe Circles to deliver essential workshops on body safety, menstrual and reproductive health to children and caregivers across Sri Lanka.

SYF Endowment Fund

SYF funds 3-5 year olds’ Montessori scholarships (up to 3 years) covering fees at Blue Skies AMI Montessori.

Past Projects

Water for Life

SYF partnered with Muslim Aid Sri Lanka to provide 478 potable water connections in Batticaloa for women-led households and families with disabled children over a year.

Back-To-School

SYF has consistently supported Care Station’s Back-to-School project providing essential school supplies and shoes to children in rural primary schools.

Sustaining Child Protection Efforts

SYF supported the Child Protection Force by funding their operations for three months, enabling the continuation of their crucial work in safeguarding children and advocating for their rights.

Revive Bundala

Fulfilling Sabrina’s vision, SYF partnered with EFL Global to plant over 133,000 trees in Bundala National Park on the second anniversary of her passing, surpassing their 5-year goal of 125,000. This also marked SYF’s first volunteer initiative.

Peter Weeresekera Children’s Home

This year SYF visited the Peter Weerasekera Children’s Home on a few occasions.
To take a birthday treat, essential medicines during the peak of the economic crisis, stationary for school and Christmas presents in December 2022.

Merci Lanka Share-a-meal Project

This project planned to provide meals to 250 pax over 2 days to CMC workers in the Maradana and Welawatte areas, as well as to disabled homes in Kalutara.

Distribution of essential goods

SYF championed essential goods distribution in 2022. They donated medicine to the Cancer Hospital in April’s peak crisis and provided ration packs to SkyGardens staff in July, a group Sabrina cherished.

Yahapath Jeewitha Project

The “Yahapath Jeewitha Project,” launched by SYF and the Merci Lanka Youth Guild, aims to improve the well-being of underprivileged communities in Sri Lanka.
